Bring
some plants and take some plants!
This
3rd annual MVCCA plant exchange will be a fun time to meet your neighbours,
chat about gardening and come home with some new plants. Sharing is a great
way to thin your garden - bring along extra seeds, seedlings, or divided perennials
or plants you just don't want anymore. Indoor and outdoor plants are welcomed.
Please refrain from bringing pests, invasive species or diseased plants. Select
community groups will be present to discuss gardening in the community. MVCCA
will have information about community events and happenings.

CHILDREN'S
ART EVENT (SATURDAY SEPTEMBER
24th 2011)
Tillicum
Road
Mount
View Colquitz Community Association (MVCCA) and 1st Gorge View Sparks (Girl
Guides) have partnered to create this unique children’s art event. Through
the event, MVCCA and 1st Gorge Sparks hopes to beautify the neighbourhood
by reducing graffiti on power poles and encouraging community involvement
and arts development in young girls. Approximately 10 power poles will be
painted along Tillicum Road with the approval of BC Hydro Power & Authority
and the District of Saanich.
Thank
you to BC Hydro and the District of Saanich for making this event possible
as well as Councillors Vic Derman, Vicky Sanders and Susan Brice for their
involvement.

Saanich Councilor Paul Gerrard, Chair of the Parks, Trails and Recreation
Committee, and Korene Torney, Co-President of the Mount View Colquitz Community
Association are pleased to announce the start of construction on Mount View
Park.
Located
on the west side of the Mount View Campus of Care at Wascana St. and Cadillac
Ave., this .54 ha (1.33 acre) park is the result of the development of the
old Mount View School site.
“Our
Parks staff collaborated with the Community Association, the Capital Region
Hospital District, the Victoria Cool Aid Society, the Capital Region Housing
Corporation, the Baptist Ministries and the public to create what will be
a great asset and gathering place for this neighbourhood” said Gerrard.
Key
park elements include: a social hub with seating and a community-maintained
ornamental garden; trails; playground; unstructured open space; benches and
picnic tables. Green features introduced to the site include a drainage swale
with native trees, and approximately 20 ornamental and shade trees.
“We
are thrilled with the development of this park. Residents have indicated a
need for something like this and the trail connection from the park to Carey
Rd., Homer Rd. and Kamloops Ave. will encourage people to leave their cars
at home and walk!” said Tourney.
Funding
for the park came from the Capital Region Hospital District, Saanich Parks
and Recreation and Morguard Investments Limited, owners of the Uptown development.
Work on the park is slated for completion later this fall. Additional work
later in 2011 or possibly in 2012 will include adding to the north side of
the park area by narrowing the Homer Rd. / Kamloops Avenue right of way.
